Riley returns for an episode. Not dead but of the living...and married. Buffy's own "relationship" with Spike comes into question when her ex's perfect romance shows her just what she doesn't have.


On the tail of a nasty, deadly demon that multiplies quickly, Riley shows up in Sunnydale, needing Buffy's help. But catching the demon reveals that it has already laid it's eggs somewhere.


Riley's wife, Sam, who's beautiful, successful, and able to kick demon ass with the best of them, manages to befriend all of the Scooby Gang, including Buffy.


With the wedding only a week away, Xander and Anya munch on snacks constantly as they reluctantly prepare for the arrival of "family" that will be staying with them. The newly married Riley and his wife offer the Xander and Anya some wise advice and show them how great marriage can be.


To support Buffy in the presence of Sam, Willow does what any good best friend would do: pretends to hate Riley's new wife. The girls actually bond and Sam gives Willow a little much-needed reassurance.


Despite popular belief and desire, Riley is not the bad guy of the episode. (Of course, some will still find a way to make him a villain.)

Yeah, that kinda sucked. I actually didn't hate Riley this ep. And Buffy broke up with Spike. She even said "goodbye William" all sad and like.

Skye, I liked Riley in this ep. I never thought he was a villian, I just didn't see any sparks between him and Buffy, that is until tonight.

I'm looking forward to the big wedding next week :D Looks like some good laughs coming up.

I so did not like this episode. I didn’t like Riley (of course I’ve never liked Riley) coming back with that “in your face/strut/I am so over you babe” attitude. That “oh look at me – I’m back in the military, doing just fine, thank’u Maim and I’ve scored a beautiful babe with no hang-ups who just loves being with the boy with the toys” and little Sam “ooh there’s my man – isn’t he just the greatest oooh”, she was so sappy my back teeth ached and I’m not even going to say what I thought about that cheesy batman exit the two of them made. Goodbye, so long, please don’t keep in touch.

Now on to something completely different :lol Buffy is still not willing to face her feelings for Spike aka William; she can’t cope because she really does care for him and she is scared by this and doesn’t want to face it. Rather than face this, she is using any/all defence mechanisms that she can come up with consciously or unconsciously. I really hope this relationship is not over; of course when you review her pattern – she has never really worked at a relationship. Angel was the older, mature man; brooding, intense, withdrawn. Riley was the rebound guy; needy, immature. Spike has a sense of humour, he’s passionate; he sees her as a woman first and the slayer second; he doesn’t have commitment problems and he loves her unconditionally. She has to stop running and look at what she has.

Still hate Riley, and I thought he was arrogant and mean to Buffy. He could've said something wayyy before the wife showed up. What intrigued me was that Sam was very interested in Willow as a Wicca. Wouldn't be surprised if she did some "work" to get the idjut, I mean Riley. The ending with him and his wife going up in the air like some hero really blew. Yuck.

Buffy is afraid to face how she feels for Spike because she is the one who really really has to come over to his side. He loves her, but he is still Spike. Buffy calling him by his name is a step in his direction, but she needs more time to deal with him as William, and not as Spike.

I was so so about this ep. I thought Angel was better this week, but it was called As You Were.

i disagree about Riley being all attitude and i think the conversation with Spike at the end was the most honest one Buffy's ever had with and about Spike. Spike is a demon. he's not a good guy. he loves Buffy, i have no doubt, but he's a demon.

Riley was just doing his job and he needed the Slayer's help. i don't see where he was mean or arrogant at all.

it was an excellent ep for everyone's character development.

Well, I do have to say that I could handle Riley in this ep. But what I couldn't handle was the CHEESY, OH-SO-FAKE scar on his face.... :rolleyes:

Poor Spike!!! When she said "Goodbye William" I think my heart broke!

As for cheering him and helping him through the rough spots... well, you can see by looking under my name that I am all over that part!:devil:

i so wanted Spike to keep growing. i had a lot of hope invested in that storyline... arggg. the demon grows toward the light on the basis and foundation of love and choice. sweet. sweet william. alas. :(

You and me both Kali. I want this to work and because I do, with my track record on shows, it will probably hit the dust. I don't care that he's a demon; I mean can we count the number of times she died! and I don't think the original slayer was "Miss Pure" either. I don't think that her being with Spike will turn her into another Faith but what will probably happen is something like Willow dated a werewolf - bye, bye werewolf, Zander is marrying a former demon - will this actually come about or will it be bye, bye Anya; even though Cordie is on another show, she was dating a demon and has unrequited feelings for Angel; Buffy dated a vampire - bye, bye Angel. So please, please just this once can we have Buffy/Spike make it as a couple. I mean nobody's perfect and I can think of a few "issues" I have with Ramoth's bronzerider and I'm sure he has a few with me ~~~~~ nah he couldn't possibly, I'm perfect ~ Yes, I am :rollin:

She left him with her love. She has the strength of character to admit that all that she can comfortably give him right now is her usury; and by leaving, she is telling Spike that he is worth more to her than to just be used. She's not a user, and this is Buffy~ she loves with every fiber in her being. I think she still loves him deeply, he's her best connection to her dark side, and Spike knows this.

:lol they are quite a pair..... he loves her, she loves him, but by using him, she knows that she's treating him like dirt. Probably why Spike still loves her....what a woman!!!

Carey, like your take. So the Buffster knows how she used Riley, and is not making the same mistake with William/Spike. Lets see how this plays out.
