Alias 1.22 FAQ
What’s it called?
“Almost Thirty Years.”
Who’s responsible?
The finale was written and directed by series creator J.J. Abrams, who also wrote and directed the series’ world-beating pilot.
What does TV Guide say?
“The spy games heat up as the drama winds down its first season. “So many pieces from the year come together,’ reveals creator and producer J.J. Abrams of the top-secret hour, which he feels is ‘a mirror’ to the show's pilot. ‘Only this time, it's Syd (Jennifer Garner) and her father going against both SD-6 and the CIA’ after a mole within one of the groups puts Will in jeopardy. Abrams also hints at ‘two dramatic deaths,’ a major wrinkle in the Rambaldi plot, some bittersweet justice for Sloane that could cost him his wife (Amy Irving) and a cliffhanger that Abrams will only describe as ‘the one I've been waiting to do all year.’ Sark: David Anders. Haladki: Joey Slotnick.”
“Almost Thirty Years”? Does the finale,as rumored, involve time travel?
No. “Felicity,” is the only Abrams-created series utilizing a time-travel plotline at the moment.
The big news?
Will lives; Sark only hit him with a tranquilizer dart. Turns out Khasinau wants to know how Will knows about “The Circumference.” (The Taiwanese security officer who did dental procedures on Syd in the pilot turns up again to conduct Will's interrogation.)
Do we learn this week what The Circumference is?
We do!!
The other big news?
At the end of this episode, we learn that Alexander Khasinau is not what we think he is.
The in no way small news?
“It’s been six days. Will warned me something might happen. He didn’t even turn up to his own awards dinner. Called his friends; they haven’t heard from him either. Are you going to publish his story?”
“Yeah. In the A section. I have to tell Dietrich that this is coming in. Call Orsay in graphics. Get a photo of Will.”
What else is TV Guide not telling us?
In an effort to free Will, Syd and Jack decide to steal both the CIA’s Rambaldi ampule and SD-6’s blank Rambaldi page.
Are Syd and Jack successful?
That would be telling.
Well, do we get to see what’s hidden on the blank Rambaldi page?
We do! (And it contains another familiar image!)
Does Francie learn what Syd really does for a living?
Not this week.
Do we see Syd’s mom?
Not this week.
Is Sloane’s wife dead?
In the first act, Arvin takes Emily to a beautiful, isolated beach house. Her excitement quickly turns to horror.
Does Dixon act on his suspicions regarding Syd?
He does!!
Are Syd and Dixon still friends by episode’s end?
No!!
What’s good?
Herc keeps typing things into this space and keeps deleting them because they give away too much. Suffice it to say that Syd, Vaughn, Sloane and Jack all get their share of highly memorable scenes this week, but Will – of all people – almost steals the episode. You, constant reader, will find it no small challenge to keep track of the many, many mammoth cliffhangers precipitated.
What’s not so good?
It’s gonna be a long, hot summer.
How does it end, spoiler-boy?
Syd, in vinyl pants, see-through top and a pretty cyan hairdo, gets the news about Alexander Khasinau. (No, he’s not Syd’s real dad.)
